Just another dark fairytale.....

If you watched the Grammy's you might have seen the first sneak peek at Disney's Maleficient....who, aside from Ursula is probably Disney's Worst/Best villian.  I mean, come on, you know its true.  She's got the horns, the raven, the evil animal/human goons doing her bidding.  She's also one of the most beautiful villians.  Put some hair on her, and make her a little less green and you've got the makings of a possible princess.  This is just another in a long line of recent 'dark fairytales' that have come out.  Movies like Mirror Mirror, Snow White and the Huntsman, that weird Little Red Riding Hood with Amanda Seyfried.  I'm not really sure what the deal is.  Are we running out of ideas - probably; or is it because we have this whole generation of people who grew up with these classic Disney movies who are now older and want to still be connected to the movies of our childhood.  Perhaps its both.

I didn't see any of the other movies that I mentioned, but after watching this trailer I want to see this movie...baaaaddd!!  Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite Disney Movies (hello, I named my son after the Prince), a close second to Snow White (the most under-appreciated of the Disney Princesses).  Although there are a couple things I want to know.  First, who cast Aurora...meh...although she did have pretty big shoes to fill.  Second, what is the truth we will be learning?  That is one of the sort of tag lines of the movie - we know the tale, but now we'll hear the truth.  What truth exactly?  What is up for dispute....and clearly now I've crossed the line of overly obsessed with a Disney movie.  But inquiring minds wants to know!!

and PS: Angelina Jolie (I don't really like her, or any of the movies she's ever done..seriously none of them), but this was the most perfect casting of a character that I've ever seen.  Bravo Disney!!!  And that beautifully, haunting version of "Once Upon A Dream," is sung by Alana Del Ray, and is beautiful.

Disney's Maleficent is in theaters May 30th

Military Support Series: The General's Kids

I am very excited to highlight this particular military support organization as it now has a special place in my heart.  Only a couple days ago I announced that I was coming on board as Programs Manager for The General's Kids.  I couldn't be more thrilled to be a part of the organization and work alongside one of the most committed and dedicated military wives, and mother, I know.  Jaqueline to me, was just the blogger of a wounded solider.  And when I say just, I don't mean just by any stretch of the imagination.  With two very small children, that was no small feat.  It was out of the struggle they experienced that this organization was borne, and it is quickly growing to accomplish some amazing things.

The General's Kids, L.L.C. was designed for our nation's little warriors. Whether they are infants or teenagers, facing the life-changing injury or illness of a parent leaves a lasting impression. There are so many wonderful organizations out there that benefit wounded warriors and their families, and children often benefit from these. But at The General's Kids we are proud to focus 100% on the children and young siblings of the wounded, ill, and injured. We can help connect children and teenagers of various ages with others across the country who are going through similar struggles, provide sponsors who will send encouraging cards or care packages, and will soon be able to offer financial assistance for things like special interests or school funding. Children living the Wounded Warrior life are faced with a harsh sense of reality. We intend to help bring back some of the things that help comfort and lighten these kids' hearts. Our goals are big and extend all the way up to wanting to fund Disney vacations and college scholarships. Our belief is that whether there are 10,000 wounded warrior kids or just one, each and every one is a priority and deserves to have their sacrifice for our freedom acknowledged.

I have seen The General's Kids provide hand-made crochet/knit blankets, or small stuffed bears to children at Walter-Reed, which I in particular love.  Often times these children are coming here very quickly and without the ability to pack up every little thing.  Having something special given to them, even if they don't fully understand can be so beneficial.  Frequently our facebook page will put a call out for items for children that are coming to Walter Reed, like portable dvd players, small toys, video games or board games.

school supplies for little warriors

One of my favorite stories from The General's Kids is the story of a little girl named Isabelle, who asked for gift cards for her birthday and gave them all to be donated to little warriors at Walter Reed Medical Center!  It's stories like this that make me want to be a part of this organization.  Something as simple as this can make the day of a child whose life has been turned upside down.

At The General's Kids they are so many ways you can give back - We have a sponsorship program, a pen pal program, care packages and just simply donating...even spreading the word is so helpful.  We don't discriminate here at The General's Kids...it doesn't matter what branch of service, or military status (active/guard), or the type of injury.  Even if the child's parent has returned to active duty, the pen-pal program would still be very beneficial to the child.  But we need your help to make sure we can help as many little warriors as possible.  Please check out our programs page and the FAQs for more information on all the programs.

Take a minute to like The General's Kids on facebook, share the page with as many people as you can!  Share the website as well!  If you are an organization that is looking to sponsor, or give back and wants to partner with us, we would be so honored and blessed to have that help!  I know I have a lot of crochet and knitting type friends too...whip up a blanket and we'll make sure it gets to someone in need.

The Sunday Social, Week 86

This is a girly one too!!  It's time for The Sunday Social, and in particular I am loving this week's questions.  It's always a fun link-up for sure, but some weeks just have a special oomph to them if you know what I mean.  This just happens to be one of those weeks.

1. How old were you when you started wearing make-up.

I don't actually remember.  I wanna say I started wearing just a little bit in Junior High.  By the time I hit high school I was buying my own and pretty much taking it from there.  My mom sold Mary Kay for years, so I was in the home of a make-up expert.  My sister and I have gone on and lived up to that legacy...frequently being asked to do friends make-up for weddings and I did several proms.  We love make-up  that's for sure.

2. What are your top 3 beauty products?

Funny you should ask that.  I'm part of a Blogging Challenge with a ton of bloggers this year, and last week's topic was in fact skin care.  So why re-invent the wheel.  If you click over to it you will actually find five of my favorite beauty products listed.

3. What is one make-up product you don't leave home without?

Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus® Lip Gloss
I love this stuff!  I actually have several shades and they are always in my purse.
You can purchase them here if you don't have a consultant (from my awesome sister who is a rock star consultant)

4. What is your daily beauty routine?

I very rarely leave the house without make-up on, or having done my routine and a minimal amount of make-up.  You think I'm kidding, but you should see my right after I delivered my baby pictures, LOL.  It's kind of ridiculous...but once I get that epidural baby I am putting that make-up on.  It just makes me feel good.

eye make-up, blush and all! LOL

Its the same for morning and evening - cleanse with either a face wash (Mary Kay Botanicals) or a cleansing pad (Simple or Ponds).  Then I put on my day or night anti-aging moisturizer serum (almost Mary Kay - TimeWise Collection).  Depending on what is going on sometimes I will use a cover-up, primer, and BB Cream.  Then whatever make-up I am going to use.  At night, its the same, except I also use a separate cleansing pad for eye make-up and mascara (tough little devils aren't they).

5. What is your favorite hair/make-up product you've discovered in the last year?

It was by total accident and not because I actually bought it, that I discovered my new favorite product.  Sometimes as a blogger you get to try cool things, and Influenster sent me my very first BB Cream.  I had heard all about it and just assumed it was another crazy thing.  Some fad that would come and go.  Well, I'm a convert.  I love the stuff.  It goes on great, smells good, feels good and has all but eliminated my need for primer and traditional foundations on most days.  seriously the stuff is amazing.  I'm kind of excited to see what it will do for my skin in the long term, but it's always hard to tell that stuff in the beginning anyway.

here's the link in case you want to check it out for yourself

Parenting 201: The Bored Box

It's an affliction I think all children get in their childhood....the ability to use the phrase "I'm bored."  I'm not sure exactly where it comes from or how they get it.  Someone should invest some money in developing a vaccine for it.  Maybe it isn't the actual being bored part I don't like, its the whiny proclamation that is like nails on a chalk board!

I'm of the opinion that children should be bored, at least once in awhile.  It forces their brains to work, tests the limits of their imagination and makes them just be for a minute.  Rest is vital to growing.  It seems that no matter what all children utter the phrase, despite what we think we are doing as parents, or the rules and values with instill in our children.  Basically I'm going with, "its not my fault."  Otherwise I'll beat myself up.  When I was young I think I remember my mom saying something to the effect of, "If you're bored you can scrub the floors with a toothbrush."  That's not off my list of possible things to do yet, but yesterday an epiphany was had.

This is the 'Bored Box'.  What is the 'Bored Box' you ask?  You know those random toys you find all over the place?  You know, under the kitchen table, in your bedroom, in your bed, in the couch cushions.  Well they get tossed in the 'Bored Box' and when the little devils darlings need some assistance in coming up with something to do they get to put away the same number of toys as their years on this planet.  We'll see how it goes.  Seems like a genius idea....from much strife comes great success right?

Military Support Series: Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Program

Making sure those that are remotely stationed, and those that aren't close to a larger base, has been something I've been passionate about for many years.  When I first started getting out there to advocate for this group of people I was a young MilSpouse with a one year old.  It was 2007 and I jumped feet first into the EANGUS community with the goal of spreading the word about young military families.  I am pleased to bring you more information about the Yellow Ribbon Program, which is available to National Guard and Reserve families (of any branch).  As an Air Guard family, we frequently were able to participate in programs originally designed or created for Army Guard families.  The same thing goes for the Strong Bonds program, so make sure to look for those as well.

The Yellow Ribbon Program offers several tips to make sure you have the support and help you need to get through the toughest things the military has to offer.

1. Find a military family readiness/support group in your area.
This can come in many different forms - through church, through the National Guard base or Armory's family programs office, or just something you create on your own.  Contact larger organizations like National Military Family Association or Blue Star Families and let them know you are there.  Sometimes its a matter of knowing a group of people are there.  With so many military families spread out over this country, and many not near larger installations, there is a whole group of people not being reached.
If you haven't already registered with JSS (Joint Support Services), do it!  You can search for all types of benefits and assistance that is in your area, including the Yellow Ribbon Program.  They have contact information and ways for you to connect with people if  you can't find help in your area.  National Military Family Association Support Group Link

2. Participate in activities and groups in your unit or community.
Once you find that support you have to get out there!!  Attending the activities that are often planned for military families—including scrapbooking nights, ice cream socials, military kids nights and holiday dinners—can help you feel more like a part of the local community, especially when you’re missing your Service member. Playgroups and military spouse groups provide additional opportunities to meet people in a similar situation and exchange advice and information.
3. Get involved with OperationMilitary Kids (OMK).
Every parent knows that deployment can be stressful for children. OMK aims to help military kids cope with deployment by bringing them together for fun activities with other kids who understand. Sign your kids up for a variety of social, educational and recreational programs.  Also, Our Military Kids offers scholarships for military children, whose parent is deployed, to help pay for those special activities.  You can find out more information about Our Military Kids here.
4. Stay in touch through military publications and websites.
Your loved one’s unit, post or base newspaper is a vital source of information about workshops and programs offered to spouses and families. Some units will share news and announcements through Facebook and Twitter so you can stay up-to-date on upcoming events or opportunities to meet with other families.
5.  Keep connected after deployment through a Virtual Family Readiness Group (VFRG).
Once your loved one is deployed, you can maintain these new connections through a Virtual Family Readiness Group, a controlled-access web system that links Service members to their families and units. The VFRG provides a secure means for your Service member to communicate with family members far from home, and the unit commander posts updates so that you have access to the latest information.  Each Service has different types of VFRGs, so be sure to contact your unit or command Family Programs staff for details.

For more info please visit their website and register for events on their event's page

You can find more resources specifically for National Guard and Reserve on my General Military tab.  Make sure to check out the other resources listed under MilSpouse and Family Support.  Many of the programs listed there offer specific help to those that are in the National Guard and Reserves.

If you feel like you are missing a program in your area, or are having trouble locating one please leave me a comment or email me cammostylelove (at) yahoo (dot) com.  I'll be happy to help, or point you in the right direction.

New Products from Happy Family! *Review and Giveaway*

I am so pleased to announce some new products that have just hit the Happy Family website.  As a huge fan of Happy Family, and their products, I was absolutely thrilled to give these products a try and let you all know what I think of them.

We have the new HappyTot - Apple Cinnamon Yogurt and Oats and the Banana Blueberry Yogurt and Oats.  Once again you have quality products from a quality company, with ingredients you can rely on.  The one allergy notice is Milk; but for my Gluten Free boy we are in the clear.   These items have organic fruits, whole grain oats and whole milk.  HappyTot morning also contains "Salba the SUPER chia," which is slightly different then a regular chia seed.  It is organically grown exclusively on one farm and more nutritionally dense then other chia seeds.  I personally liked the banana blueberry, but they are both quite yummy.

These are a great, healthy options for moms on the go in the mornings - getting and taking your older ones to school, or on a morning when you have an early doctor's appointment.  What I love about the Happy Family line is that I don't have to sacrifice health for ease.  Sometimes we are just too busy in life, but that doesn't mean our littlest ones have to sacrifice.  Happy Family provides options for a healthy morning.

You can purchase these items on the Happy Family site, or on Amazon.  You also should be able to soon, if not already, find them on the shelves of your local Target store.

But one of my lucky readers has the chance to win a case, with eight of each flavor in it, of the new HappyTot morning SuperFood pouches!

Good Luck

a Rafflecopter giveaway

**I received a product in exchange for my honest review and opinion.  I was not compensated in any other way, and as always I strive to be honest and open with my readers.  thank you.

The Sunday Social, Week 85

Make sure to come back on Tuesday for the Inagural Re-Unveiling (did you like that?!) of Rewind 365 here on Cammo Style Love.  Come back on the third Tuesday of every month when we take a look back at where we were a year ago that week - include your pictures, stories, whatever!  It's going to be so fun.

Now, onto the the Social!

1. Top Three Favorite Kinds of Food

I love food, so for reals how do you pick only three?  Number one would be Chicken, because you can do anything with chicken and its amazing.  Two would have to be pizza, because its pizza and its awesome.  I found some yummy gluten free pizza so now i'm okay.  Bread I can do without, the brownies and cookies are yummy, but I was really worried about finding good pizza.  Mission accomplished so I'm good to go now.  Three would have to be potatoes - mashed, baked, twice baked or sweet.  Yummy!

2.  First Three Things You do In the Morning?

On a school day I start my coffee, wake up my oldest and then check my email while I'm waiting for him to drag himself out of bed.  We both happen to be not morning people.  Oiy, morning people.  LOL

3.   Last Three Things You Do at Night?

Brush teeth, set my alarm and say I Love You.  We always say I love You as the very last words....that is when he's home.

4. Three TV Shows You Never Miss?

Duh!

It's so good and I hope it lasts!!!  I love it.

It's mine and Mr. Air Force's show that we always watch together.  I record them and when he's around we usually marathon them.

5. Three Places You Want to Visit

 - Prince Edward Island.  It's kind of a whole Anne of Green Gables, from my childhood thing.

 - This is a beautiful church in Newmarket, Suffolk, UK.  My mom used to live there and I've always wanted to visit it.  Basically anywhere in the UK is cool by me.

St Mary: the best of Newmarket.

 - Venice - seriously how beautiful is this place.  Only picking three places is really hard, but it's a start.

http://www.brisbanedevoured.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Venice-Bridge.jpg

6.  Three people I can always count on

That is too hard.  These last two years have had a lot of ups and downs and a lot of friends that have hung in there with me even when I was at my lowest, totally detached and things like that.  More friends than three that's for sure.  My family is always there for me and that's more than three right there.  Katie, Katy, Jamie, Holly, Toni, Tori, Sarah...way too many to count.  I tell you i couldn't have made it without them, even though I didn't even realize they were there.

Okay, now that I'm crying....

Can't wait to read everyone's responses this week

2014 Blogger Challenge - Favorite Skin Care Options

So we are into Topic 2 for my 2014 Blogger Challenge.  Never mind that I'm cutting it close this time, with two days to spare.  The point is that I'm getting it in right?  Are you guys participating in any blogging challenges or goals this year?  If you are, make sure to let me know so I can follow along and support you in your blogging goals and challenges.  I'm a succor for it.

This week's topic is all about skin care, and I'm really excited about this.  I feel like after all this time I've really honed my skin care regimen.  This includes my make-up uses.  While I still experiment and try new things, especially as a lucky duck blogger that gets to sometimes try new things, a point has been reached where its time to get series about my skin care.  Not to dwell on the fact that this year will be the big 31, recognizing that taking care of my skin and looking into anti-aging components of skin care is important.  Here are a few of my favorite things.

Restore

This is a new item for me, that I tried thanks to Influenster.  I'm sure you have seen the Cindy Crawford commercials for this particular line of products.  I've been wanting to try it ever since I saw them.  Apparently the commercials were doing there jobs right?  This is a preventative so I can't say anything specific about how it is working for me.  I love the smell and feel.  Being someone with sensitive skin, I love finding products that don't affect it negatively.

I am a true Mary Kay fan, a loyalist to the brand that has been in my life since I was a little girl.  In fact I once wrote a letter to THE Mary Kay and she wrote me back.  My mom sold Mary Kay for years, and is still a faithful user.  Now my sister sells it.  If you're interested in trying any of the products totally visit her page.  She a freaking make-up expert its ridiculous.  Mary Kay has the Good Housekeeping seal of approval; and now is the make-up sponsor for Project Runway AllStars.

TimeWise® Miracle Set® (combination/oily)
This is the TimeWise set, available for both oily/combination skin and dry skin.
This stuff is great and I have used both versions, as I've changed climates.  Remember this is an important thing to note in skincare.  Sometimes your skin can change, which means you have to change up your skincare plan.

Mary Kay also came out with a Botanicals line, which is made without any synthetic dyes or added frangrances, and is their most "natural" line of products if that is something you are looking for.  You still get the great benefits and history of excellence that you get with other Mary Kay products, but in a Botanical form.

I'm also a fan of the Time Wise Firming Eye Cream (notice changes right away!!), micro-dermabrasion set, and the eye revitalizer.

This is my favorite make-up removing/cleansing pads.  I always, always have problems with my eye make-up coming off.  This is rough thing right ladies?

Simple Skincare Eye Makeup Remover Pads
Simple Skincare Cleansing Facial Wipes

Thanks for stopping by the blog today.  Do you have a favorite skin care product?  I wanna hear about it please!

Adventures in Odyssey - The Redcoats are Coming *Rhe's Bookshelf*

File:Imagination-Station13-front.jpg

The first of a three-book story arc about the American Revolution, The Redcoats Are Coming follows Patrick and Beth as they assist the revolutionaries by waking up the sleeping citizens of 1775 Concord before the Redcoats come. In this adventure, the cousins meet Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Hancock. They help smuggle musket balls, sound the alarm that the Redcoats are coming, and deliver a secret message to Paul Revere. Along the way they learn that most of the revolutionaries leaned on God’s direction and even pastors helped in the cause.

Christian parents and teachers will appreciate the historical facts as well as the biblical worldview training their kids and students will absorb. The kids will appreciate the excitement and tension of an America at war with England, and in some ways, with itself. A curriculum for Christian schools and homeschool families will be available for download at $3.99.

What I Thought:  You don't even know how excited I was at the opportunity to review an Adventures in Odyssey book.  This is the stuff of my youth, sitting around the radio with my sister listening to Whit and the kid's have adventures at Whit's End.  It's so cool.  This is my children's first introduction to AIO, and having just purchased some of the CDs for them to listen to, and was excited to see how they responded to the book.  While it is probably a little bit old for my five year old, she still sat and listened and actively engaged when something caught her ear.  My seven year old was definitely engaged and asked when we could read the next chapter.  I love the idea of introducing real, historical adventures to kids, in a way they can plainly understand.  In fact, I even learned a few things that even I hadn't known. This is a really exciting prospect - introducing history to my kids since both the hubby and I are huge fans.

What is even more awesome is that you can access curriculum that pairs well with the series.  And with a three book series that sounds like it could be something awesome.  I would love to explore the curriculum with my children and go further into the content with them, on a level they can understand.  Having some experience with Focus on the Family and the Adventures in Odyssey radio series and movies, there is no doubt in my mind that these books and accompanying curriculum would be awesome.

You and your children can access all the fun with Whit and the Gang on their website.  You can purchase the book, and check out all the other books on Amazon.

Five out of Five Stars

Six YouTube Workouts You Have to Try - Plus, a one-week plan

As promised in my Wednesday post here are my newest workouts, which by the way I am loving.  I feel good, but it's also hard.  There's a whole world on YouTube when it comes to fitness, that I just couldn't believe existed.  I have to give a shout-out to Robin's Sweet Confessions.  Her blog posts about her 30 day Paleo Challenge is what first clued me in on the whole YouTube work out thing.  And, if you are looking for a Paleo Challenge Robin's I would one thousand times recommend.  Having done a Paleo Challenge myself I can tell you it is one of the hardest things I've ever done.  It was, however, the best thing I ever did.  It changed the way I looked at eating and affected how I understood food.  It was also how I discovered my problem with gluten.  Robin's 30 Day Challenge is the best one that you could probably find on the internet without paying for it.  She has everything you need including meal suggestions, workouts, snack help, water drinking help.  For someone like me that gets really overwhelmed with change; and would rather have someone else figure that out and basically order me around, it's basically a dream come true.  So to aid you in the whole "telling you what to do" thing here are five awesome YouTube workout videos you must try.

Day 1: Jillian Michael's 6wk six-pack abs Level 1

Day 2: Energizing Morning Yoga

**this is the yoga workout that finally made me like yoga

also on Day 2, give 30 Day Butt Lift Butt Workout 6

Day 3: 10 Min Abs with Laura London

and BeFit Arms HIIT

Day 4: Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred Workout 1 - cardio/arms/abs circut

Day 5: Morning Yoga and Butt Lift

Day 6: Jillian Michael's Six-Pack Abs

Day 7:  Rest

Come back Tuesday for the first Rewind 365 re-vamped linky!!  The third tuesday of every month will be set aside to rewind and look back on where you were a year ago that day!  Grab the button and get your post ready!!

Healthy is the New Skinny!!!

For the last couple weeks I've been doing a hodge-podge of workouts trying to accomplish a couple things:

1) Move and get fit
2) satisfy my need for change - which I hadn't fully realized until I started this
3) and a whole #healthyisthenewskinny mind frame

I want to be positive and confident in myself, but realistic of course.  I have a lot of baby-weight that I've never lost, even from my oldest who is now seven.  But realism goes both ways.  I have to stop battling genetics and a little bit of reality.  I have no desire to be ripped or obsessed with being thin and wanting a six-pack.  I don't want to spend hours every day obsessing and working out.  Even at my smallest, dancing every practically every day, no soda drinking best self I wasn't a stick.  It's just not the genetic body-type I was dealt.  I don't want to pass on those insecurities to my daughter.  She doesn't need to think about that stuff, and I don't want her to.  I'm not really sure when that when that set in because my parents never made me feel insecure, and my mom was never obsessed with her body.  Whatever the reasons, that doesn't need to be passed on to my daughter.

**A Quick PSA - this is in no way judgement on these models and whether or not they are healthy or unhealthy, or anyone that is super skinny or a size 0!   This is about me**
What I don't need to stare at

Haha What if you walked into a room and these women were all standing like this. Models...when do you ever make that pose/face in real life? neva unless you're really drunk and joking.
