What's up with TriCare and the FluShot

It's flu season again!   We usually get a flu shot, although we don't live and die by the decision on this particular immunization.  Last year we didn't (or I didn't, because I completely forgot and ran out of time), but this year I'm determined to figure out a way to get it done.  One of the questions that I usually have is where the heck can I get the flu shot and not have it cost me an arm and a leg, right?  Sometimes I miss the free or discounted flu clinics, and for years I didn't think my insurance covered them (which at one point I don't believe TriCare did).

Here's a link to some Flu Season information from HealthNet and TriCare; as well as Healthy Homefront, a great blog from TriWest.

  1. There was a point where Tricare didn't cover the flu shots. I know walgreens stopped accepting their insurance. I go to CVS and love it, I refuse to go on post to a clinic especially since they are only on a walk in basis.

    1. It's crazy, this was true for so long. I remember going to get a free flu shot because our insurance didn't cover it. in the state of nevada they would provide free ones in cases like that. But here, I don't know. We'll see. I even still need to do some research for here. On post is totally lame :(

  2. So far, my Doctor has administered them to me for free for the past three years {I'm on Prime and am seen off base}. I just got one last week, since I'm in the process of moving home while my husband is deployed and I definitely didn't want to get sick.

  3. my last year in MD i did it at cvs and could even schedule it online. i think every big pharmacy does them nowadays. in japan our only option is the immunizations clinic (and the nasal vs. the shot, ew).
