Adventures in Odessey - 90 Devotions for Kids

I am super happy to bring this review to you guys today!  Not only do I just love the book in general, Adventures in Odyssey holds an extremely sentimental little place in my heart.

I remember laying on the floor with my little sister listening to Adventures in Odyssey on Focus on the Family Radio.  Such wonderful memories.

Being given the opportunity to review this book, from Tyndale Publishing, was so exciting.

This book is absolutely wonderful for children of different ages.  My 6 and 4 year old were both equally happy to participate in each devotion with me.  They are organized well, and they are just the right length with the appropriate content to keep them interested and learning each time we do one.  This is by no means fluff.  There are real, deep, things to be learned in these devotions, and that's what I've always appreciated by anything that I've seen by Adventures in Odyssey.

The devotions also include puzzles and talk about subjects like Prayer, God and the Church, the Bible, Forgiveness and Giving.

I would definitely recommend this to any parent looking for a devotional to do with their children.

5 out of 5 stars!
Thank you Adventures in Odyssey and Focus on the Family

Disclosure: I received this book as part of my work with Tyndale Blogging Network, in exchange for nothing other than my honest opinion.  I was not compensated in any other way.  My opinions are my own.

Ami...where did time go?

My middle one, my only girl, turned four on Sunday.  In the midst of the Frakenstorm I didn't post anything, but as the rain is falling outside and the kids are playing I thought I might take the time now to reflect on four years.  How do you really summarize four years in one little blog post?

Ami was due on Halloween.  How fun is that?  I mean, if you're going to be born around a holiday Halloween would be a preferable one for sure.  We, through a set of circumstances relating to our first birth experience, decided to induce.  And there she came to us, on October 28, 2008.  Ami was named by her daddy, first and middle name. Ami Rose was a name he had picked when we were dating.  *Cue romantic swoons*  Of course in my spunky and slightly rebellious side I had to choose to spell it weird.  But its cool, A-M-I is the Hebrew way and its supposed to be pronounced Ahhhh-Me, meaning friendship.

So, now you are four, and a spunky little, purple loving girlie girl.  You are a teaser, like your daddy and drive your big brother crazy.  I'm pretty sure that in about 11 years we're going to be in some real trouble.

Saturday Top Five Laughs...

dentistmelsbbutton Saturday Top Five Laughs Come join Our Blog Hop!

Happy Saturday everyone! this is a new blog hop for me, but I love The Mommyhood Chronicles, so I thought I'd join in this week.

There's never a moment where I'm not expecting something absolutely ridiciulous to occur in my house.  With three crazy kids, and mostly running things sans Mr. Air Force Hubby, there's always something crazy going on here.  Here's some highlights from our week.

1. Since my son started school this year apparently Fire Drills have been high on his list of exciting things.  It is important to note that on Back to School night he drew for us his favorite things in school, and fire drills were on the list.  It is also important to note that he draws them all the time at home, with surprising accuracy.  So, when my mom came to visit she asked Brian about school.  She asks him about Fire Drills and he says, "I don't really care for the fire drills, they just don't set with me well."  Apparently I'm raising a child in the early 1900s.

2. My mom and I were out and about getting ready for Phillip and Ami's birthday party.  She decided to help me buckle in Ami in the back of my highlander, which had the third row up.  I had popped up the glass door and she, my mom, proceeded to climb on the bumper and stick in the upper half of her body in some sort of squat, bent, contortionist move.  She strained her back and she and I are laughing hysterically in the parking lot of the Toys R Us, almost to tears, as she's bent over and holding her back.  Oh yeah, we're awesome!

3. At the Birthday Party Extravaganza for Phillip and Ami (because when in the Air Force you have to do things you loathe, like having joint birthday parties for your children...shiver) my friend and her little boy came over a little bit early.  He little boy is just about 18 months and he and Phillip play amazingly well together.  Apparently the boys got into a little tiff over the Melissa and Doug cupcakes, which ARE in fact AMAZING by the way.  In an effort to secure a cupcake just for him phillip grabs a cupcakes and tosses it in the opposite direction of his friend, and THEN crawls to it.  Shrewd move my son.

4. Its not really funny, although I guess in a completely hysterical unfunny way I've realized I miss my cat.  I really think I'm going insane to be honest.  My anxiety is through the roof, I'm lonely and I keep telling myself its not because now I have three kids, because honestly one is not home half the day.  And because if I admit to the fact that it is because of the third kid then my whole, I'm so desperately sad about being done (ugh) then well, that argument doesn't set well with the hubby (there's that phrase again).  But I guess this is funny because I'm really a dog person, and even though the cat was really mine, I named him, and so on, he really loved my husband.  But here I am 10 months without my cat and I'm really starting to miss him.  That's funny.

5. Frakenstorm...that's funny right?  Everyone is freaking out around me.  Shelves are wiped clean of water and D batteries.  The hubby is not freaked out.  He's cool.  Well that's all fine and fabulous Mr. Not Even Going to Be Home!  My neighbors aren't phased, but he seems to me that everyone else is totally losing their minds.  I'm trying my hardest to not be one of those freaking out people.  But just to make me feel better Hubbs was out last night checking the trajectory of our giant trees, and the points of the roof so that I would know the best place to hang out in the house if the wind got really crazy.  He thinks that hilarious ;)

#WordlessWednesday #WW - Almost Heaven

Have you heard of House Parties? #SodaStreamParty

I absolutely love reviewing things, its really one of the reasons why I started blogging.  There are so many reasons to be honest, but reviewing products was a big part of it.  Many times I just review products that I already have and love, or have bought myself.  Slowly but surely companies started offering me the opportunity to review some amazing things.  Books are my most common review item, but sometimes I get to review awesome and big items like my Hoover Carpet about freaking awesome.

Then I discovered House Parties!  I'm particularly excited about one of their upcoming parties, brought to you by Soda Stream.  You've seen the commercials right?  Turning normal tap water into amazing soda?  I know...I'm a total skeptic too, but seriously if it really works and is on the up and up how cool would that really be?

I don't know about you but the whole idea is pretty cool.

In doing my research about this product I stumbled across a freaking amazing ad for a similar product from 1983 (Go 1980s, and the year I was born! Whoop Whoop!)

If you are a blogger or way into social media I suggest you check out House Parties Inc.!  Way cool.  I've got some upcoming reviews for some of my House make sure to check those out!

Military Monday on a tuesday: It's Ball poo on you

So this was supposed to be my normal military themed monday post. But, my little guy turned one so I thought I would push this out a day and celebrate my little man!! You can see him over one year here. thanks for stopping by and have a great week!

My facebook news feed is littered with pictures of my friends all decked out in beautiful dresses for their respective military balls.  They are talking about it, posting pictures of what they might wear, sending me texts to ask my opinion; I even went shopping with one of my friends to look at some pretty dangly earrings to compliment her dress.  Don't get me wrong, its exciting...that is...if you're going.  If you're not, well, lets just say it kinda sucks.  When you're a military spouse the Ball is like the payback, the redeeming factor, the thank you let's pretend we're back in high school, sans kids, and get all gussied up and have fun.  It's definitely worth a run-on sentence or two.  You might see some fun posts about what not to wear to military balls, like this one on Spouse of my favorites.

Waiting for that beautiful invite to come in the mail inviting us to the ball, going shopping for the dress, the shoes and the jewelry, its all part of the fun.  I love it!  The hubby on the other hand can't stand it.  I mean, he goes, for me really.  He's not the most out-going type of guy, which might be completely surprising if you met him.  He's not a hermit or anything, but spending all event schmoozing it up probably isn't on the top of his bucket list.  He goes, for me.  This year, circumstances being what they are, we aren't going.  I thought we might have a chance to attend another one...but, again, circumstances being what they are, we aren't.

I'm really sad about it.  More so then I would have thought, if you had asked me about not going awhile ago.  I'm not gonna like, I got a little teary about it.  It sounds silly as I'm writing about it now, but that's my thing!  That's the like the know, my big 'ole military spouse thank you.  In all honesty, when do I really get to dress up like that?  I'm not really attending any operas or ballets, or Broadway.  Dinner's out, even on date nights, aren't usually super fancy.  I probably would have dug out one of my old dresses and worn them again, since ball gowns typically don't go out of style.  I might have gotten some new shoes and some new jewelry...probably would have gotten my nails done, but would have done my hair myself.  So, here I am, not going this year and its kinda a bummer.  I have had plenty of times to dress up and dance with the hubby.  We started dating in highschool, so we had several school dances, our wedding, and a couple military balls.  So I'm not totally deprived.  This year has been hard though.  Moving across the country only a couple of months after having a baby, and a a job where he's hardly around, has been really rough.  I was sort of looking forward to this nice mirage in my little desert.

Maybe just maybe I can talk the hubby into a fancy date here soon.

Anyone else missing their military ball this year?

Happy 1st Birthday Phillip

Dear Phillip,

I can't believe you are one.  Where did time go?  It's absolutely crazy that its already here and you aren't my baby.  Although I feel like you will always be my baby.  You are my heart and you're such a momma's boy.  You aren't walking yet, but you crawl at lightning speed so really, what's the point.  You have six teeth and say mama, dada, baby, bye bye and hi.  You wave to us all the time and are always so happy.  You are as smart as a whip and it always amazes me!  You love playing with your stacking cups and following around your big brother and sister, whom you absolutely adore I can tell.  You eat like a little monster, and have long since given up baby food.  Going for walks and escaping out the back door to crawl around in the grass are also some of your favorite things.  You sleep well at night, but napping is just a nuisance...because clearly you will miss something if you do.

I love you my big boy!!!

Sunday Social week 20

Its time for my favoritist time of the week - Sunday Social with Ashly and Neely. Seriously I love it. I sort of feel like I'm just endlessly repeating myself...but its true...i love I'll stop...nope just kidding ;)

Ashley, and several others, are having a silent auction for to benefit the Turner Family. If you don't know what I'm talking about please check out the link.  Matt, the husband and father, was killed in a Car Accident two weeks ago.  He was a news anchor Little Rock.  I have been moved by the blogging of Julee and the outpouring of love being shown for such a sweet family.

My mom is in town this week so I'm super excited for that.  I haven't seen her since January.  We are making our way to West Virginia to visit my Aunt, Uncle, Cousin and Grandfather - who is celebrating his 84th birthday!  I haven't seen them since Ami was about 6 months old.  So, lots of fun things going on around here.  Please check out some posts that I love right now!

Sunday Social

1. What do you value most in life?

My family and My God.  Without these things I would be even more of a mess than I already am.  My life isn't as tough as a lot of people's I know, but gosh darnit if it isn't a tough road to hoe every once in awhile.  Having my family (friends include in that) and my faith are really what get me through.

2. What do you think is the greatest invention in your lifetime and why?

Gosh that's a tough question.  For me, in this moment, I feel like SKYPE is way up there on the list.  It has saved my children and more specifically my son.  Being able to see my husband is really valuable. He's not gone on regular deployments, its a lot more unorganized and hectic than that, and the constant change is really hard.  So SKYPE is a lifesaver.

3. What do you think is the secret to a good life?

Honestly it really is as simple, in my head, as laughing and having fun.  There are so many things I think that goes into a good life - loving people that surround you, that lift you up, can be honest with you and so many other things.
4. What would you most like to be remembered for when you're gone?

I hope that people will remember me as being someone that is always willing to listen to them and be helpful and encouraging.  I hope that I'm remembered as being a good military spouse, wife and mother.

5. What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?

My college degree. I was the first one in my family, on one side and partially on the other, to get my college degree.  I was eextremely proud.
6. If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play you?

Gosh,  I don 't know!  I really love Sandra Bullock. If Sandra Bullock from "While You Were Sleeping," which is one of my favorite movies, could play me that would be awesome!

Thanks for jumping on the carnival ride with me!  Please, go check out all the other amazing blogs, or link up yourself.  I find at least one new amazing blog to read everyweek.  There are so many to link through that I just can't get through the whole list every week, because inevitably one blog catches my eye and I totally obsess.

Favorite Things and Fitness Friday.....

Thank freaking goodness its Friday people...although now that I think about it, it really doesn't matter to me at all because my Friday could be a Monday.  But to all you out there that are experiencing a Friday on this Friday, hip hip hooray!!  I'm participating in a new link up today that seems fun.  Favorite Things Friday is a fun link-up hosted by the super fun Jenny, over at Sippy Cup Chronicles.   I've been reading her blog for about a year now and she's loads of fun!  If you don't want to join the link up make sure to stop by and check out her blog.

Here are my favorite things right now!

my purple jeans from Target!  I can't believe I did it, but I did.  I love it and I get compliments all the time.
I love this freaking show.  I swear I want to be a southern bell, living in Atlanta and working at Sugerbakers.  This show just reminds me of my mom and my grandmother.

My little month splurge.  Monthly nail polish thanks to Jule
p.  Last month I didn't get anything because frankly the colors were absolutely atrocious in all the categories...but  my October Box was quite redeeming.  The purple is from my first box and this black is from this months.  I finally found a black nail polish I love.

seeing my hubby and daughter together like this.  We were at my son's Tae Kwon Do class and they were playing Ami's first game of tic tac toe.  I just snuck a quick pic.  So adorable.

Now for Fitness Friday.  I'm really trying with this whole weight loss, healthy living thing.  I know I sound so flippant about it, but sometimes I just get tired.  Every time I get in a groove something comes up.  Maybe its just an excuse.  But, I will say that I'm super proud of myself because I feel like's something is clicking.  I've recently met some absolutely amazing bloggers.  Military bloggers that someday I hope to meet in person.  Madeline from Food, Fitness and Family and Maria from Lift Love Life.  I stumbled across their blogs when I joined a group for military bloggers.  We all have little ones about the same age and their post partum weight loss journey is something to be extremely admired.  They are so encouraging to me now that I so wish that I had found their blogs earlier.  I can't imagine what that inspiration would have done for me during the tough time after I had my son, had surgery and then moved across the US.  That was really when I struggled with my motivation.  It became "easy" for me to give up or get distracted.  I don't know if they know how much they have meant to me in the last couple months, and the encouragement they've shown to me, but they do and they have.

So here's what I've been doing this week!

I've continued with my 4 miles a day walking and pushing the double stroller with my fifty lbs of children on it, and one way being almost entirely up hill!  It's getting easier for me now so I know that's a good sign!!  I've also been continuing with my Fembody routine, which you can read about here.  I've also added a couple things to my routine which are purely experimental.  On Maria's blog I learned about something called Intermittent Fasting (here's one of her posts about it).  I'm trying to implement that into my life, as well as including a great detox tea (thanks Yogi).   I'm trying to focus on getting more sleep, and cook more and budget my time.  The more kids I have running around the more I've come to appreciate my lists and my paper planner.  My goal is to be FitFluential someday like some of these amazing blogging ladies I've come across lately.  In the evening, after the kids go to bed I've been doing another workout from my fitness app!  If you haven't downloaded it you should!  It really is great and if I need something new, or something quick, it helps.  I'm able to get a great work out in no matter how much, or how little time I have.  Look for Workout Trainer by Skimble in your App Store!  There's a free version or a paid version!

next week I hope to bring you my exact workout and some of my favorite workouts from the app!  My goal, after my mom leaves town, is to jump back on the P90X bandwagon!

Happy Friday Everyone!!!  How are you being FitFluential?

Babies 'R Us and #GRACOSAFETY!!

Hello All!  I'm so excited to be bringing this information to you today.  One of the reasons I started this blog was to tell everyone what I thought about the products I love and have tried.  Another reason was to share ideas and thoughts I had about my kids, and what I do with them, what I've learned from them.  This is one of the reasons why this is an event that is so important to me.  The safety of kids in all aspects of life is such a big deal.  There has been a recent influx of information out there about carseats for our children..  When do we turn our kids,  when do we put them in boosters, when are they done in carseats?  I have children that fit in all three categories, and am just about to make the whole done with carseats decision.

With my older two I did the whole, turn them at one.  That was really the school of thought, and it wasn't until about a year ago that I really heard much about keeping them rearfacing longer.  I love how science and technology is ever evolving!  It is such an amazing thing.  I recently decided that we too would practice extended rear facing.  Thinking about doing before I had the other two would have been kind of crazy.  From what I can recall they pretty much hated it at about one.  I don't know that I would have had the fortitude to continue the whole rear-facing thing much beyond them.  Turning them around made the car ride so much easier.  The three now, sit three across in my fabulous SUV/Crossover and having at least one of the older ones with me all the time makes Phillip's ride facing backwards a million times easier.  Another thing I worried about was the leg issue.  My kids are super tall, and the thought of my oldest facing rear for over a year....well, I just don't know how safe it would have been to have his legs all cramped up.  Despite the worry about all that stuff, I am really happy to try this out.  What is safer for my child is something that I'm willing to give a go to.  Its the least I can do as a parent, and really it's my job to keep my little's as safe as possible.

I was super excited when I found Graco had been the one to come out with this amazing car seat.  I'm a huge fan of Graco, having owned several of their carseats over the years, including our oldest's infant car seat!  So let me tell you a little bit about this carseat.
